If you live in the United States, more than a few travel destinations are worth your time. There are tons of scenic routes to choose from, but nothing quite like the Northeast to capture views that can’t be found anywhere else in the country.

If you are looking to take a road trip, then there are a few routes worth following that will take you through the heart of the Northeast.

Letchworth State Park

Undoubtedly, seeing state parks is right up at the top of the list of destinations, particularly in the Northeastern United States. Located in Upstate New York, Letchworth has been called the “Grand Canyon of the East.” This is due to a huge gorge that drops a whopping 600 feet into the Genesee River.

The best entrance is in Portageville, roughly an hour from either Buffalo or Rochester. Driving through the entire park doesn’t take more than 20 miles, but there are plenty of opportunities to go hiking, take pictures, or enjoy the scenery.

The Adirondacks

In the most remote portions of New York is Adirondack Park, which features 46 rounded peaks, the tallest of which can reach more than 4,000 feet in the sky. The best part is that there isn’t any hiking required to enjoy the views.

A scenic drive route starts in North Creek, moving along Route 28N that loop-s around the mountains and through the forest. It turns into Route 28S when you hit Blue Mountain Lake, but there are much weaving turns spanning the 90-mile route, with tons of opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery.

The Mohawk Trail

The United States has a litany of Native American history to cover. One of which is the Mohawk Trail, which became the first official scenic route in New England back in 1914. Covering 63 miles between Williamstown and Athol, there are picturesque scenes that have been barely altered in all this time.

Hiking through the Mahican-Mohawk Trail is a must, running through Charlemont’s beautiful Mohawk Trail State Forest. History and beauty come together in one gorgeous scene.
